Gift a diffuser or a set of scents?

5 October 2026 · PURRA

Gifting a diffuser or a set of scents comes down to a single question: does the person already own a device? If so, the PURRA Signature Set, six 10 ml bottles at 24,90 €, is the right gift. If not, the device has to come first, otherwise the scent stays unusable.

The Signature Set is the collection of the six house scents in 10 ml glass bottles, designed for the C30 diffuser and for it alone. The arbitration between the object and the consumable is therefore not first a matter of budget: it is a matter of compatibility, then of what each gift asks of the person receiving it. For an overview by recipient profile, our guide to choosing which diffuser to give completes this reading.

Key points:

  • A 10 ml bottle lasts 333 hours of operation on the gentlest setting, around six weeks on a basis of 8 hours of diffusion per day.
  • The Signature Set holds six bottles, so 1,998 hours of operation, around eight months on that same basis of 8 hours per day.
  • The 10 ml bottles screw onto the PURRA C30 and onto it alone; the PURRA X300S and G300 take the 100 ml Signature Refill.
  • Prices read on the shop on 5 October 2026: Signature Set 24,90 €, PURRA C30 89,90 €, PURRA X300S 199,90 €.
  • Free delivery from 49 € to France, Switzerland and Monaco; below that threshold, 8,10 € within France.

The device or the scent: what each gift asks of the person receiving it

A diffuser given as a gift takes up a place on a shelf, a socket or a charge to keep an eye on, and a refill to buy later. A set of scents asks nothing at all, except already owning the device that goes with it. That asymmetry decides the gift, not the gap in price.

Giving an object means giving a habit to take up: where to put it, which intensity to set, when to refill it. Many people enjoy exactly that, and it is what makes the gift valuable, an aluminium device you refill instead of replacing. But for someone with no appetite for one more device, the same object becomes a polite obligation.

Giving a scent, conversely, means giving immediate use and zero decisions. The bottle screws on, the device starts again, nothing changes in the room. The downside is well known: without a device, the bottle stays a handsome closed object. One useful clarification along the way, a diffuser is not a corrective. If the point is to answer a smell settled into a home, the question is handled differently, as our article on a windowless bathroom that smells musty explains.

The matte black box with magnetic closure and fitted foam is documented for the C30 and for the Signature Set: in both cases the gift arrives presentable with no extra wrapping.

The format trap: a scent given as a gift does not fit just any device

The 10 ml bottles of the Signature Set screw onto the PURRA C30 and onto it alone; the 100 ml Signature Refill screws onto the PURRA X300S and G300. Giving a scent without knowing which device the person owns is therefore a coin toss across half the range.

PURRA, a French brand of cold nebulisation fragrance diffusers, builds its range around four diffusers and six scent refills in two containers: the 10 ml glass bottle and the 100 ml aluminium canister. The two formats are not interchangeable and no adapter exists. Format by format, our guide to refills and their compatibility covers the detail.

How can you tell without asking? A visual clue is usually enough. A device the size of a can, moved from the car to the office, is a PURRA C30: it covers 10 m² and takes the 10 ml bottle. A floor-standing column, or a device left permanently on a console, takes the 100 ml. When in real doubt, you do not give the scent on its own.

The 10 ml frosted glass bottle screws straight onto the head of the C30: that thread, and it alone, makes a set of scents usable or unusable at the recipient's home.

Three situations where the scent alone is enough

The scent alone is enough in three precise cases: the person already owns a PURRA C30, the gift budget sits around twenty-five euros, or the present completes a main gift already chosen. In those three situations, adding a device at 89,90 € brings nothing more to the person receiving it.

Two situations where only the device makes the gift

Only the device makes the gift in two cases: the person owns no diffuser at all, or the room to be scented goes well beyond the 10 m² covered by the PURRA C30. Giving six 10 ml bottles to someone with nothing to diffuse them is giving a promise they will have to fund themselves.

The first case is the most frequent and the most poorly handled: a set received without a device forces the recipient to spend money to enjoy their gift. When in doubt you therefore give the device, which arrives anyway with a 10 ml bottle, a second empty bottle for the cleaning cycle, a USB-C cable, a microfibre cloth and its manual. The gift works that very evening.

The second case is a matter of volume. A living room opening onto a dining area, an open-plan office, an entrance hall: beyond 10 m², the C30 is no longer the right tool, whatever scent you put in it.

The two devices that structure the choice

A 100 ml Signature Refill lasts 625 hours of operation on intensity I, 400 hours on II and 200 hours on III, around 78, 50 and 25 days on a basis of 8 hours of diffusion per day. The PURRA X300S is currently offered on pre-order, shipping from 15 November 2026.

Giving both: when the addition makes sense, and when it does not

Giving the device and the set together comes to 114,80 € at the prices of 5 October 2026, crosses the free delivery threshold of 49 € and puts 1,998 hours of operation in front of the recipient, around eight months on a basis of 8 hours of diffusion per day. It is the most complete gift in the range for someone who owns nothing.

The addition makes no sense in three cases, and it is worth saying plainly. If the person already owns a C30, a duplicate device serves no purpose. If the budget is tight, a set on its own remains a measured gift, not a cut-price one. And if you want the person to choose their own model, it is better to give the set now and let them decide later.

That leaves logistics, often decisive at the end of the year. Shipping leaves within 24 to 48 hours and the parcel can be addressed straight to the recipient, as our article on sending a Christmas gift directly to the person details. Returns are accepted within 14 days, with return postage borne by the buyer, and an opened refill is not taken back for hygiene reasons.

Frequently asked questions

Is it better to give one big gift or two smaller ones?

One striking gift wins when the recipient owns nothing comparable; two smaller ones win when two occasions in the year need covering. A diffuser at 89,90 € and a set of six scents at 24,90 € lend themselves to both readings, separately or added up at 114,80 €.

The real criterion is not the amount but the space: two objects take up room twice, an object and a consumable only once. When you do not know the person's home, the pairing of device plus scents stays the safest choice, because it fits into a single box. It also crosses the free delivery threshold of 49 €, which a gift at 24,90 € does not.

Which gift can you repeat for the same person the following year without repeating yourself?

A gift that gets used up can be repeated, provided you change the contents. The PURRA Signature Set brings together six scents in 10 ml bottles, so 1,998 hours of operation, around eight months on a basis of 8 hours per day: a different scent the following year is not a duplicate.

That is the structural advantage of the consumable over the object. The device is given once, the scent renews itself, and the recipient has had time to form an opinion in between. You can even lean on what they preferred the first time to sharpen the next choice, which no device allows.

Is a scent that is too assertive risky for a living room you do not know?

The risk is real and it is defused through the setting rather than through the choice of scent. The C30 offers two intensities, 15 seconds of mist followed by 3 minutes of pause on the gentle setting and 15 seconds followed by one minute on the higher one, plus a timer of 1, 8 or 24 hours.

Giving an assortment rather than a single bottle settles the rest of the problem: the person tries, keeps what suits them and sets aside what does not speak to them. That is a fundamental reason to prefer six scents to one when you do not know someone's taste. Remember that a diffuser covers a smell and does not remove it: it serves neither to hide a problem nor to correct the atmosphere of a room you would be judging.

Can you order both and decide at the last moment which one to give?

It is possible and it is regulated. For a distance purchase, the buyer has a withdrawal period of 14 calendar days, as set out by the official factsheet on the right of withdrawal. With shipping leaving within 24 to 48 hours, ordering both then sending one back stays feasible without rushing.

Two caveats are worth knowing before committing. Return postage is borne by the buyer, which turns the option into a real cost. And a refill whose bottle has been opened is not taken back, for hygiene reasons: the arbitration therefore happens before unscrewing anything, never after trying the scent.

How many hours of diffusion does a set of six 10 ml bottles represent?

A 10 ml bottle lasts 333 hours of operation on the gentlest setting. The six bottles of the PURRA Signature Set therefore total 1,998 hours of operation, around eight months on a basis of 8 hours of diffusion per day. That basis is a calculation assumption, not a guarantee of use.

The total falls mechanically if the device runs longer or on the higher setting, and rises if use is shorter. This is why a duration is always given with its hourly basis: without it, the same bottle could just as well last a few weeks or several months depending on how you count. The 333 hours are the figure stated by the manufacturer for the gentlest intensity.

Does the set on its own qualify for free delivery?

No, not on its own. Delivery is free from 49 € of purchase to France, Switzerland and Monaco. A set of six scents at 24,90 € falls below that threshold: postage then comes to 8,10 € within France and 10,00 € to Switzerland and Monaco.

Two sets, or a set added to a device, cross the threshold and bring postage down to zero. The calculation is worth doing before validating the basket: the gap between two sets and a single one is smaller than it looks once postage is factored in. The stated times are 2 to 4 days within France and 2 to 5 days to Switzerland and Monaco, after shipping within 24 to 48 hours.

If the person already owns their device, or if you are looking for a gift that opens well without imposing anything, the Signature Set and its six scents is the choice that asks the least of the recipient.
